Astana. July 4. Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev explained why he gave the name “Khan Shatyr” to shopping and entertainment center in Astana.
“Tomorrow we are opening a wonderful shopping and entertainment center “Khan Shatyr”. I called it in this way, because in the steppes the highest official is called with the word “khan”.
And the biggest tent belonged to him. Following these traditions, the biggest tent wase called “Khan Shatyr”, Nursultan Nazarbayev said on the national flag raising ceremony, which took place on Sunday near the ethno-memorial complex “Atameken” in Astana. Thus the start of the festive events in honor of the capital, which is celebrated on July 6 was given.
He noted that this facility will be the place of interest of the capital, along with the Palace of Peace and Consent (“Pyramid”), the Palace of Independence, the University of the Arts, a monument “Kazakh eli”, “Baiterek”.
According to the president, the capacity of the complex is 10 thousand people. It was designed by the renowned architect Norman Foster.
